Project Overview
The client is international company based in Zurich, who develops and manages brands related to all aspects of home living. The client is using data structures set up several years in the past, and wishes to upgrade their legacy data structures to use best practices.
Zorang reviewed the clients data and proposed a new data structure, one which takes advantage of inheritance and parent/variant relationships to simplify the creation and maintenance of related products. Zorang carefully implemented the new data structure, bringing the product database up-to-date

How Did We Help Them?
Implemented A Full Taxonomy
Previously all products used the same field set. By setting up a taxonomy, the client was able to tailor product properties depending on the taxonomy node.
Implemented Product Localization
Because the client sells in multiple markets, having localized properties and descriptions was essential to managing products with a minimum of “locale specific fields”.
Inheritance and Parent/Variant Relationships
The client has products that vary only by size, or color, or style. Setting up Parent/Variant product relationships allowed them to take advantage of inheritance… the ability for the parent product’s descriptive fields to automatically update all it’s children. This saves time and increases accuracy when maintaining an ever-growing number of SKUs.
Reduction In Overall Property Count
The proper implementation of Localization meant that the client no longer needed to replicate descriptive fields for every region they wanted to serve. Instead, a property can store data for all languages, allowing for an overall reduction in fields in the UI, and a faster, cleaner UX.
What Were The Final Outcomes?
Modernization and best practices.
Data model restructuring.
Localization and inheritance.
