Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a word was coined in the 60s by John McCarthy, however the fundamental concept of a non living entity’s ability to perform deductive reasoning and hence being “Artificially Intelligent” has been around since the time of Aristotle. AI research in the modern times has been going on since the early days of computers. We have all experienced some form of AI whether it is in Excel spreadsheets ability to magically copy and apply formulas across our worksheets or video games which seem to have an uncanny ability to counter our moves. The modern resurgence of AI can be attributed to the huge advancements in computing power (hardware) and inexpensive access to the same (PaaS/IaaS/Cloud) as well as our understanding of the human brain and translation of the same into complex algorithms and multi-layered neural networks.
AI systems can only be as good as the data they are trained on. GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) still applies here. Hadoop has transformed our ability to process huge amounts of data and in turn give access to the same to these systems. The fact that these systems can be deployed in the cloud and anyone can access them sitting at home has definitely contributed to rapid advances in practical uses of AI, from Smart Assistants like Alexa, Siri etc. to self driving cars. APIs play a central role in this story. I will be discussing the same at a similarly titled session at API World 2017 Conference, Sep 23-28, San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA. Join us at the conference to learn more about how Zorang can help you apply AI to transform your business.
